JUNE 2011
Dear Friends, Family and Followers, (June 12th)
Our event on 6/10/11 was wonderful! A great time was shared by all that attended.

I would like to thank The Rock, My Big Fat Greek Restaurant, J.T.Reno (and his lovely wife Tonya), Tony Williams, Rayne Estrada, Mel Nevitt, Ari Ajo, La Jolla Diamonds and Gems, Termagon, ALL OUR SPONSORS, and EVERYONE that bought tickets. If I didn't list you, it is NOT because we don't appreciate you. It's because the list is soooo long!! A BIG Heartfelt THANK YOU!!

Channel 11, Fox News, once again did a nice job of covering this event. Thank you to Samantha who spent a long time chatting with me about Jessyka and her plight.

As most of you know, Jessyka is now residing at her parents home. This has been a rough transition for all concerned. Her therapy is only 1/2 of what it was while she was 'in-patient'. If she needs to be seen by a Doctor, they need to call for medical transport and wait. Then to bring her home, they call for medical transport and wait. This is not only very hard on Jessyka, time consuming for everyone, but expensive. Jessyka remains determined to overcome this brain injury. Although she cannot talk yet, or walk yet, we know that with adequate therapies, she will. With limited funds available, Jessyka gets the life sustaining items 1st (such as food at $500.00 per week). Then she gets the life improving items.

With God's help and the generosity of all of you reading this, Jessyka continues to make steps toward recovery each day. It is , however, a very long and rough road to travel.

My granddaughter, Cheyenne, has become Jessyka's new best friend. She spends as much time as possible at her house. (maybe the new driver's license and permission to drive over has a tiny bit to do with it, also) Cheyenne is close to Jessyka's age and I hope this helps to stimulate Jessyka in a different way that just care can do. Cheyenne has also grown to love Jessyka for her strength and courage. She also is aware of her parents, love, attention and sacrifices.

As we see this through to a full recovery, we appreciate your love, support and contributions. Stay tuned for the next Jessyka's Hope Event.

God Bless,

Christina

2nd benefit for Jessyka JUNE 10th

May 25th
Dear Friends, Family and Followers,

During the month of May, Jessyka's 18th birthday came and went. I doubt this is how she envisioned and looked forward to that big day. It was spent surrounded by friends and family- in the hospital.

She continues to make steady progress with daily therapy- physical, occupational and speech. Although she is not YET walking ot talking, she can and does communicate with her eyes and low noises. She is aware of what is going on around her and who is by her side.

The Doctors caring for her say there is no reason why she shouldn't walk and talk again- with continued intensive rehab. The insurance company is not so happy with baby steps and has now stopped paying for this rehab. Her current care exceeds $1000.00 PER DAY.

As of tomorrow, The Murrays will take Jessyka to their home to care for her- with the help of family, friends and God. Some of Jessyka's helpers donated time and material to build a concrete ramp at their home (a $2000.00 project) so they could get her wheelchair in and out. For every 50 tickets we sell, Jessyka gets ONE DAY of care. What can you do to help this local family in need? Buy tickets and join us in a celebration of music on JUNE 10th at 6 P.M. at THE ROCK!!!

Please contact me for tickets via this email or by calling 520-275-5629. Tickets and details can also be seen at jtreno.com.

PLEASE OPEN YOUR HEARTS AND JOIN US 6/10 AT THE ROCK FOR JAMMIN FOR JESSYKA FUND RAISER. TICKETS INCLUDE ENTRANCE TO A NIGHT OF LOCAL MUSIC, FOOD AND A RAFFLE TICKET! AND WE HAVE SOME AWESOME STUFF TO GIVE AWAY!!!!

Dear Friends :)   Update....

Jessyka' progress- With daily P/T, O/T and S/T she continues to get stronger every day.. She has gone from sitting on the edge of the bed for seconds up to a few minutes. Certain people can get her to smile on command- mostly Mel! I have watched her therapy. It is excruciating for Jessyka as evidenced by her obvious display of pain and discomfort. It is heart breaking for her mother to watch. Yet you can see and feel the determination and strength that Jessyka exerts.

Once again the facilty is requesting more money to keep Jessyka in Rehab and the parents are faced with taking Jessyka home. The very 1st obstacle is that there is no H/C access where they live so they will need to get 'permission' to install a concrete ramp for her wheelchair, most likely at their own expense. Then there is the equipment she will need at home. Then there is the help she will need. Because ,of course, she will not be able to receive daily therapy. Her mother will also need to learn how to do this.

Unfortunately, none of this comes cheap and due to circumstnces beyond the family's control, every day is a new financial drain. I have personally spoken with Jessyka's Dr. and many others with direct experience with TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury). They all agree that Jessyka CAN and WILL some day walk, talk and eat real food given enough time and therapy.

The next fund raiser- JAMMIN' FOR JESSY- will be held at THE ROCK on 6/10. They have generously donated their facilty, security and all the printing of the tickets, fliers, etc. Tickets cost $20.00 each with every penny going to Jessyka's rehab therapy. Several bands have donated their evening of talent to entertain you. This event will begin at 6 P.M. and go on until we are too tired to listen to music! J.T RENO will be there, TONY WILLIAMS will be there, JIMMY AFTER DARK, PSYCHOTIC, A GUY AND HIS WIFE, perhaps ARCHIDEMEDES with his human GREG and maybe some surprises as well! The ticket will get you in the door and feed you. We also have some wonderful DOOR PRIZES. Come join us for an evening of celebration of healing through MUSIC!!!!

to contact me for more info or to purchase tickets. This event is designed to be family friendly! PLEASE pass this along to as many people as possible! We have 600 tickets to sell!!!

Thank you for taking the time to read this!

If you have any ideas, please let me know. If you can come up with any gift certs, etc. for door prizes, please let me know. If you have a talent and an instrument, let me know. We may also have some Karaoke contests just for fun!!

Jessyka Murray Fundraiser

April 6, 2011
Dear Friends, Family and Music Fans     I have penned this letter to ask for YOUR help! A family friend is in dire straits and YOU can make a difference.

This Saturday is a fund raiser for Jessyka Murray. Jessyka is an 17 year beautiful girl and family friend. On Nov 14th 2010 she was in a horrific car accident in Tucson Arizona. A driver made a left turn into her car and by the Grace of God has survived. She was in a coma but conquered that. She has substained mass brain damage. Jess is currently in HealthSouth Center on Orange Grove beginning her long road to rehab. On April 26th of this month the family insurance has reached its limits and will be dropping coverage for this family.

This event is so close to our hearts. As you may or may not know; one of our sons is a U.S. Marine. Jessica’s bother (Griffin) joined the Marines back in 2002 with our son (Grant). As a military family we share a special bond with them. Not only did our sons head out to defend our country together but we share daughters the same age. We are fully aware it could have been our daughter in the car instead of theirs on that fateful day. Every parent with a teenage child can identify with this nightmare. They had insurance coverage but now that is being threatened just as she is beginning to climb out of this nightmare. We need to surround this family with love, prays and support in every way possible. This is a time where we can show our kindness with a tangible tool - our dollars
.( This is a picture of Jessyka and her brother Griffin)
THIS SATURDAY April 9th …..There is a fund raiser for Jessyka to help keep her in this rehab facility for the treatments necessary to help her with relearning life skills. You can help! Every cent raised will contribute directly to the cause!!!

10am-4pm Fund Raiser Event

The event on Saturday is being catered by My Big Fat Greek Restaurant that means great FOOD. There will be a CARWASH. There is a silent auction. Many great RAFFLE PRIZES have been donated - including 4 brand new smart phones. JT RENO will be performing live music most of the afternoon.
The event is located at the Greek Orthodox Church on Ft Lowell & Mountain in Tucson Arizona. (Most of you Tucsonans know this spot as the location where the annual Greek Festival is held). Event runs from 10am -4pm. Take an hour out of your day and drive over to support this family in their time of need! Yes it is a ways to drive and yes I’m sure you are busy like everyone is on a Saturday but……wouldn’t you want someone to do this for you if this was your daughter???? If you are unable to make this event on Saturday and would like to contribute to the cause you can online!!!!

Fundraiser Saturday for brain-injured teen  Story(1) CommentTucson Health: Fundraiser Saturday for brain-injured teen
Stephanie Innes Arizona Daily Star | Posted: Wednesday, April 6, 2011 12:15 pm
Tucson resident Jessyka Murray, 17 (right) suffered serious brain trauma Nov. 14. She's seen here with brother, Griffin and mom, Marcy/Photo courtesy of the Murray family .
..Friends and family of a Tucson teen who suffered brain trauma in a car accident Nov. 14 are holding a fundraiser for her medical expenses Saturday.

Jessyka Murray, 17, was a passenger in her friend's car when they were struck by a Toyota truck that made an illegal turn. No one else was seriously injured in the crash.

She cannot walk, speak or eat on her own. She's in rehab at HealthSouth on the Northwest Side, but her insurance covers inpatient services for 60 days only. After that, the family must file appeals for 30 day extensions.

As it is, they've already had to pay out more than $10,000 in co-insurance and co-pays for Jessyka's care.

"She is very aware," mom Marcy said. "She totally knows what is going on."

While doctors have prepared the family for the worst, the Murrays are staying positive.

"Miracles happen all the time," Marcy said. "She'll never be norrmal again but she'll be close to it. We're hoping at least 90 percent."

The fundraiser is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 9 at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 1145 E. Fort Lowell Road.

The event will include a car wash, clowns, face painting, Greg Ewald and his Russian eagle owl, a silent auction and raffle, bake sale and rummage sale. For more information, call 850-3251.

TUCSON, Ariz. -- A Tucson family is hoping for a miracle. Last November, their teenage daughter was severely injured in a car crash. Now she has massive brain damage, and her family doesn't know how they're going to care for her.

Jessyka Murray, 17, was once an outgoing Canyon Del Oro high school student. Now Jessyka spends her days in a hospital bed.

"She has to be hoisted out of her bed into a wheel chair, she breathes on her own, but she's being fed out of a tube, she cant speak or move on her own," said Jessyka's brother Griffin Murray.

On November 14 Jessyka was a passenger in her friend's car. When they were struck by another car making an illegal turn.

For months she's been staying at a Tucson rehabilitation center that costs about $4,000 a week.

Up until now, insurance has covered those costs, but recently the insurance company said it could no longer pay for Jessyka's medical care.

"Literally the most difficult portion of it is dealing with how we're going to make it to the next step," said Griffin.

Saturday Jessyka's family and friends held a fundraiser. It was the start of a campaign to save her once her insurance coverage runs out.

With the help of several local businesses, community members and her brother Griffin's fellow marines, they collected hundreds of items to be raffled off.

"I think it would mean the world to her to know how many people really care about our own," said family friend Christina Boucher.

Together they hold out hope for some sort of miracle for a teenage girl who wouldn't expect any less.

"One of the biggest things that keeps the family with hope and faith is the fact that Jessyka may be only a 17-year-old girl, but she's extremely strong," said Griffin.

Jessyka's family plans to hold more fundraisers in the future. To learn how you can help, visit the J.T. Reno site, and scroll down to the Jessyka Murray Hope Fund.

News 4 at 4 Time running out for teen with head trauma

ShareShare Rating: 12345 5.0 (1 vote) Time running out for teen with head injuryPreviousNextTime running out for teen with head injuryTUCSON - After a devastating car accident, Jessyka Murray is lucky to be alive - but her luck may be running out as her insurance says they will no longer cover her expenses.

On Sunday morning, November 14, 2010, 17-year-old Jessyka Murray was catching a ride to work when she was in a horrible accident at the Benson Highway and Kino intersection.

"Her head hit the windshield and she suffered major head trauma," said Griffin Murray, Jessyka's brother.

Griffin says since that tragic day, on-going surgeries at Health South Hospital have helped Jessyka with her recovery. Her insurance has been paying the cost - about $4,000-$5,000 a week.

But on April 27, that will change - the money will stop.

"It's awful," Griffin says. "If insurance doesn't cover her after the 27th, she'll have to go home and the families left on our own, trying to find physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, nurses to come in, caregivers."

That's why her family says they're willing to do whatever it takes to get the money Jessyka needs. So, on Saturday, they are hosting their first fundraiser for Jessyka, at St. Demitri's Greek Orthodox Church, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

"It's on Ft. Lowell and Mountain, there'll be a ton of stuff there: food, phones, a lot of different things are being auctioned off," Griffin says. "There's going to be a lot of cool events there and it's literally just the beginning."

The family believes that Jessyka will one day make a full recovery, but it will take more time than her insurance will allow.

"There's a lot of people out there that have been in similar cases to Jessyka where they have made full recoveries, but they've also made those recoveries based on the rehabilitation institutes that they've been in provided by healthcare and health insurance," Griffin says.

If you can't make it to the fundraiser tomorrow, you can still donate money to Jessyka on this website:
